Why it happens

The 12306 hotline (12306) is Chinese-only, but every major station has a service desk (服务台), and Trip.com provides English-speaking support if you booked there.

Fastest fix, free: Go to the station service desk (服务台), or call 12306 with a Chinese helper. If booked via Trip.com, use their English support.
