Payment 2 of 62 known sticking points

You selected the wrong ID type and can't change it

You chose "Other ID" instead of "Passport" and now the app won't let you fix it. Here is how to get unstuck.

ID locked !

Wrong ID type selected → the field can lock.

What you'll see

If you chose "Other ID" or "Chinese ID" instead of "Passport", you may be stuck at the identity step:

"ID type cannot be modified" · "Verification incomplete"
中国 App 里显示为:证件类型不可修改 / 验证未完成
Error-text level: L2 (observed wording). Exact in-app strings are being verified against a live device.

Why it happens

Foreign travellers must verify with a passport. The app sometimes defaults to another ID type, and once submitted the field can be locked, blocking card binding and payments.

Fastest fix, free: Open the card you already added, look for "Edit" or "Remove", delete it, then re-add and choose "Passport" carefully this time.

The full fix sequence (free)
  1. WeChat: Me → Services → Wallet → Bank Cards → tap your card → look for "Edit" or "Remove".
  2. If you can't edit it, remove the card and add it again. This time, choose "Passport" carefully.
  3. If the system won't let you remove it, you need to contact customer service.

When the fast fix isn't enough

In the kit

When the app truly locks the field, the kit gives you the exact customer-service script.

1. The customer-service script (CN + EN)

Show this to a WeChat/Alipay agent: a ready-made line that gets the ticket routed to the right team the first time.

2. The trigger matrix

Which app version locks the field versus which lets you edit — so you know whether to retry or call.

3. Offline printable version

The whole script as a printable card, so you can show it at a bank counter or to staff with no signal.

If nothing works

If the field is hard-locked and you cannot wait for customer service:

  1. Use a different app. If WeChat locked it, try Alipay — the two have separate identity records.
  2. Ask a Chinese companion to call customer service on your behalf with your passport details.
  3. As a last resort, create a fresh account with the correct ID type from the start.

Most travellers know about three of these before they fly. This one is often not one of them.
